The company founders were among the inventors and creators of the
educational software package TOPSIM-IV. This comprehensive software package was designed for simulation of complex communication links and has a very large library of
blocks that mimic the functions of components that are often implemented
in hardware.
In particular:
Dr. Lo Presti developed the filter library and many of the
modulation and demodulation blocks of the package over a 25 year
period;
Dr. Mondin developed many of the channel encoder and decoder blocks for coding
and modulation in addition to multichannel filtering and synchronization
blocks over a 15 year period of time;
Dr. Daneshgaran, another founder of the company, independently developed
software blocks for orthogonal
frequency division multiplexing based on arbitrary shaping pulses,
wavelet waveform generation blocks, channel coding and decoding blocks,
equalization blocks, SISO channel coding blocks and Turbo coding and decoding blocks over a 15 years period of time.
The wealth of experience obtained in signal processing for simulation of communication systems, has partly been the impetus for the development of real-time software blocks for implementation of complex functions at the physical layer of the protocol stack. Our software package STAR is a library of efficient, reliable, and above all, speed-optimized software designed to interface with real-time and real-world communication signals. The key element for such a development, is the creation of software blocks whose interconnection lead to systems that truly mimic the functions of hardware. Indeed, a software code block always produces outputs given inputs. The key question is whether the resulting outputs are meaningful and represent what the true system would produce if implemented in hardware. Our software, is designed and build to be deployed, rather than being used purely for simulation purposes.
